Manokwari Declaration

Commitment of the two Provinces in Papua of Indonesia to ensure that development activities must always consider: environmental protection to ensure the life of the people; protection and preservation of biodiversity; wise and sustainable management and utilization of resources; and restoration of the degraded environment. This commitment is articulated in the Manokwari Declaration that was signed during the International Conference on Biodiversity and Creative Economy (ICBE) in Papua. 14 points are agreed in the Declaration, which includes protecting the 70% of primary Papua Forests; recognition and registration of the indigenous people rights; and creating a new path of sustainable economy with the Papuans in the lead. The ICBE was held in Manokwari,  7 – 10 October 2018. The conference brought together government officials, academe, politicians, civil society organizations, research bodies and customary community groups and local institution into the series of workshops and discussions, with the theme “Sustainable Provinces, Smart Solution for the Development in West Papua.
