Soeryo Adiwibowo studied agriculture socio-economics and and environmental and natural resource management for his bachelor's and masters degree at Bogor Agricultural University (BAU), Bogor, Indonesia, respectively. He obtained his doctorate from Kassel University, Germany, with his thesis focused on political ecology. Soeryo has actively sought to broaden the study of human ecology and political ecology at Bogor Agricultural University. Beyond academia, he is also active in the policy sphere, and played a key role in the finalisation of the Law on Environmental Protection and Management (2009) as well as the development of environmental assessment tools and guidelines. Currently, Soeryo is Chair of the Department of Community Development and Communication Sciences, Faculty of Human Ecology, Bogor Agricultural University.
