Samdhana nurturing organic farms linkages

17-02-2009

Agato Organic Farm

The Grants Manager (Neni), Administrative Officer (Widia) and Finance Manager (Nurul) of Samdhana visits the organic farms in Yayasan Karang Widya, Bina Sarana Bakti and Pak Bambang’s farm, all located in West Java on April 16, 2008.

Nurul expressed that the process starts in setting the ‘mindset’ on organic farming before proceeding to the technical part such as choosing what to plant.  Nurul appreciates the discussion on how to calculate the cost and the income from the harvests per plot or area.

Neni learned from Ngalim, Director of Karang Widya, that the ideal setting is the farm that follows the law/order of nature or ‘hukum alam’.  She understands that there should be no intervention in the nature cycle such as using chemicals because it will degrade the soil.

The visit of the Samdhana staff is part of the occular survey of organic farms being conducted by Bilal Fahlevi, Samdhana’s local facilitator for Aceh in preparation for the apprenticeship program on organic farming.
