CIFOR Trains IUCN EGP Partners in Philippines

The Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) will train IUCN-Ecosystem Grants Program Partners at the Binahon AgroForestry Farm in Lantapan, Bukidnon, from May 25 to June 3, 2010.  The fieldwork will be held at Barangay Nabaliwa, Pangantucan, Bukidnon.  CIFOR will conduct an adapted-multidisciplinary landscape assessment (MLA) training convened by Samdhana Institute, which is the IUCN EGP Focal Point for Southeast Asia.  This training is part of a series of capacity-building activities under the Knowledge, Networking and Learning (KNL) program being implemented by Samdhana with the support of IUCN-EGP. 

 

Samdhana has also partnered with Kitanglad Integrated NGOs (KIN) which served as host organization.  KIN is operating in Mt. Kitanglad and Mt. Kalatungan in Bukidnon. Twenty-one representatives from eleven organizations have confirmed as follows:  Philippine Eagle Foundation (PEF), Kinaiyahan Foundation, TRICOM, IMPEDE, Kitanglad Integrated NGO (KIN), ELAC,NATRIPAL, Tanggol Kalikasan (TK), Cordillera People’s Alliance (CPA), Green Mindanao (GM) and PARTS.

 

The trainors are Michael Padmanabo and Nining Liswanti from CIFOR.  The program includes an introduction on the MLA concept and methods, simulation of community meeting and building capacities of community to fill-up data sheets, discussion on participatory mapping, socio-economic survey and biophysic survey which includes site description, tree and non-tree sampling, etno-ecology and soil assessment.  Towards the latter part of the training, the participants are expected to learn how to design their own survey applicable in their own communities.
