Purpose :

The grant supports the rehabilitation of a poor neighborhood of Kapuk Muara, after the 2007 floods.  It conducts training on community-based waste management and provides household composting tons and communal composting facilities for the local traditional market,  this is expected to reduce the environmental impact of waste disposal in the Angke river and spur income generation from sale of compost made from organic waste.

Purpose :

The grant supports the forest rehabilitation program in Bukit Gambi by the village groups of Air Gemericik.  It will fund the nursery establishment and the capacity building on new techniques of sustainable forest management.

Grantee : Kelompok Masyarakat Adat Kampung Pendaun (The Management Group for Bukit Bindang protection)

Purpose :

To protect Bukit Bindang from illegal logging and to strenghten community natural resources network and management by clarifying the boundary of protected forest of Bukit Bindang; disseminate the infomation related to protected forest; regular monitoring and building the community network to protect the forest. This community is being facilitated by Fauna and Flora International (FFI).

Grantee : Marine Research Foundation

Purpose :

The grant will be used to address the education needs of Mantani village, the lack of awareness of marine conservation issues, and the improvement of the livelihoods of the local community, by developing a ‘Conservation for Education’ initiative, which already has the full backing of the community elders, the District Officer, and the Malaysian Department of Education. Among the key initial requirements for village improvement, all linked to the “Education for Conservation” theme, are facilities for the school, an aid outpost for the community, waste dumping sites and incinerator facilities, and improvements in general environmental practices. We have agreed with the local District Office and the School Board that the most pressing need at the local school is a new library.

Grantee : Forest Peoples Programme (FPP)

Purpose :

Provide guidance so indigenous rights activists in Sarawak can document the ongoing conflicts between indigenous peoples and the expanding oil palm sector which is now moving in on their lands after the logging frontier has been through. Two groups of activists in Kuching and Miri will collect local testimony and assemble information about the 60+ cases filed in the courts in excommunity-oil palm company land disputes. The information will be edited into a report and presented in Kuala Lumpur and Singapore in the context of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil.
