Mobilization against Biofuels in Bayanga
Samdhana community village members, students, church leaders, local organizations, planted over 1,000 trees to show their 'positive' intent to continue to protect the landscape and oppose the bioethanol plant and conversion of over 2000 hectares of agroforest areas to cassava monoculture to supply the plant. 1,000 protesters gathered to oppose the plant in a public hearing for Environmental Impacts.
Four Lhoks and other Acehnese partners visit Mindanao, Manila
Nine community members and their support NGOs from Kuala Kiran, Lhong, Lengah and Lampana in Aceh visited the Philippines. They looked at renewables and biogas technologies, community peacebuilding initiatives, educational institutions for Indigenous Peoples and visited policy development and advocacy groups.
Samdhana brings Papua to IUCN World Conservation Congress in Barcelona on October 5-14, 2008, Theme: A diverse and sustainable world
At the IUCN Congress, Papua Governor Barnabas Suebu was keynote speaker on Governance and Climate Change, and five other sessions related to forest management, REDD and Papua Vision. At the World Conservation Congress, some 8,000 leaders from the public sector, government, business and non-government organizations to share the best ways to tackle environmental and development challenges.
