Building Peace, Enviromental Conflict and Mediation Support

Environmental justice will be realized when disempowered parties engaged in conflict on land and natural resources are afforded a fair chance. This fair chance involves:

  • Information of legal rights and options for communities or institutions under conflict
  • Availability of local experts in legal and policy research, advocacy and participatory processes for selection of options (legal or non-legal)
  • Availability of reliable procedures or mechanisms in government and non-government institutions to ensure enforcement of mediated agreements or decisions
  • Access to legal defenders and courts

All of the above are core to environmental conflict and mediation support that Samdhana will offer upon request

  • Fellows, associates lead in priming and coaching paralegals, mediators and advocates
  • Fellows, associates provide training and mediation services directly, upon request
  • Fellows, associates help nurture local legal defenders groups
  • Fellows, associates facilitate links with individual mediators or institutions which can run periodic training, courses and exchanges and follow ups

First workshop will be on Free and Prior Informed Consent procedures (see Events).
